LA CALAGUA AND ITS PROPERTIES

Calaguala is a type of fern native to Peru, but can be found in countries of Central and South America, reproduces in forests and mountainous areas. Its scientific name is Campyloneurum angustifolium and popular form also known as lizard grass, huala cove, vilcĂșn and pillavilcĂșn.

The calaguala is a fern whose leaves are ovate and dense and are between 30 and 120 centimeters long, have enough orange serums on the underside, the edges can be smooth or slightly jagged. Its root or rhizome is fairly thick fleshy, branched, with long petioles, is brown in color and with orange scales.

In addition it is terrestrial, it develops in the bark, the branches of the trees and in the rocks, for this reason it is said that it is an epiphyte plant, also is the reason why it is called grass of lizard, it compares to the form in that this animal rests on the trees.

It is very rare to see this plant grow on the ground. Also, it has no flowers or fruits, reproduces through spores and needs a lot of moisture.

Medicinal properties of the Calaguala

The herb Calaguala has recognized medicinal properties, even the oldest civilizations of South America, used to treat a great amount of sufferings. Among its properties or medicinal powers are:

● It is a great antioxidant.
● It is a good appetite stimulant.
● It is a good sudorific.
● It works like a purgative.
● It is excellent for debugging blood.
● It enables healthy hair growth and prevents alopecia like other autoimmune diseases.

Home remedies with Calaguala

All the powers of Calaguala can be easily exploited by means of home remedies, which are very easy to prepare. An important point is that it is necessary to be constant, since the treatment with this plant requires an extended time to be able to see its effects.

The part used is the root or rhizome, both for the internal and the external route, 20 grams in half a liter of water is used to prepare the infusion. This rhizome decoction is drunk several cups a day for gastrointestinal, respiratory and cardiac diseases.
