FUMARIA AND ITS PROPERTIES

Fumaria Officinalis L.

BOTANICAL DESCRIPTION - Annual plant of branched stem. It measures between 10 and 30 cm in height. The stem is erect, covered with leaves, angular and hollow. The leaves are alternate. The flowers are symmetrical and hermaphrodite, grouped in clusters arranged next to the leaves of the stem. The 2 external petals are red or purple. The fruit is an achene in the form of kidney. It flowers from May to August.

COLLECTION - During flowering, the entire stem is harvested without roots.








DRUG - Flowery sum.

ACTIVE PRINCIPLES - Alkaloids, flavonoids, phenolic acids, bitter principles, mucylate, resin and tannins.

PROPERTIES - Decreases or stimulates bile secretion according to body, hypotensive, antispasmodic, anti-sciatic, sedative and bactericidal needs.

USES and APPLICATIONS - Oral route in the treatment of jaundice, biliary dyskinesia, digestive migraines, difficult digestions, flatulence, herpes, skin disorders such as eczema, allergies.
