ARTEMISA AND ITS PROPERTIES

ARTEMISA / MATRICARIA (Tanacetum parthenium (L) Sch. Bip), aerial parts


Traditional Uses:
A) internal use: intestinal worms, pidulles; Scarce and painful menstruation; Headache, migraine and neuralgia; fever.

The infusion is prepared with 1 tablespoon of the vegetable for 1 liter of freshly boiled water: drink 1 cup 2 to 3 times a day. 
B) external use: rheumatic and arthritic pain.

The same infusion is used in compresses and washes.

Effect: anti-migraine (1), febrifuge(2), anti-inflammatory.

Caution: do not administer during pregnancy, use with medical supervision during lactation. Do not take in conjunction with anticoagulants, aspirin and ginkgo biloba.
May cause contact dermatitis. In order to manifest its effects it may be necessary to use it daily for 2 to 3 months. Fresh leaves in direct contact can cause mouth ulcers, abdominal pain or loss of taste. 
Other background: its use in the prevention of migraine are supported by clinical studies. Its anti-inflammatory effect has some scientific evidence.
1 Calm migraine or migraine.
2 It lowers the fever.

ANIS AND ITS PROPERTIES

ANÍS (Pimpinella anisum L.), fruits (popularly known as seeds)

Traditional uses: digestive disorders (colic and accumulation of gases); Colds, dry cough, pharyngitis, bronchitis, fever; Breast milk sparse; hiccup.

The infusion is prepared with 1 tablespoon of vegetable for 1liter of freshly boiled water: drink 1 cup 2 to 3 times a day.

Effects: antispasmodic (1), carminative (2), cholagogue (3), galactogen (4).
Precautions: High doses may be toxic and should be used sparingly.
Other background: its use is endorsed only by tradition.

2 It prevents and favors the expulsion of gases in the stomach and intestines.
3 It increases and stimulates the expulsion of bile from the gallbladder.

4 Increases the secretion of breast milk


ARTICHOKE AND ITS PROPERTIES

 ALCACHOFA (Cynara scolymus L), tallos-hojas

Traditional uses: liver and biliary diseases; Fluid retention due to liver malfunction; high cholesterol; drop.

The infusion is prepared with 1 tablespoon of the vegetable for 1 liter of freshly boiled water: drink 1 cup 3 times in the day.

Effects: cholagogue (1), choleretic (2), depurative (3), diuretic (4), hepatic protector (5), hypolipidemic (6).
Other background: its use is endorsed only by tradition.

1 It stimulates the secretion of bile by the gallbladder. 
2 It stimulates the production of bile by the liver.
3 Cleanses other body fluids from impurities.
4 It promotes and increases the production of urine.
5 It favors liver function.
6 Lower blood cholesterol level

AJENJO AND ITS PROPERTIES



AJENJO (Artemisia absinthium L.), stem-leaves-flowers

Traditional uses: stomach and liver discomfort; intestinal parasites; Irregular menstrual cycle; Cold with cough.

  The infusion is prepared with;
1 tablespoon vegetable for 1 liter of freshly boiled water: drink 1 cup 3 times in the day.

Effects: antispasmodic (1), carminative (2), emenagogue (3), vermifuge (4).

Precautions: Pregnancy and lactation are not recommended, nor should infants or people with epilepsy be used. Do not consume for long periods. Avoid its use in chronic digestive inflammations. Other background: its use has some scientific evidence.
