ARTEMISA AND ITS PROPERTIES

ARTEMISA / MATRICARIA (Tanacetum parthenium (L) Sch. Bip), aerial parts


Traditional Uses:
A) internal use: intestinal worms, pidulles; Scarce and painful menstruation; Headache, migraine and neuralgia; fever.

The infusion is prepared with 1 tablespoon of the vegetable for 1 liter of freshly boiled water: drink 1 cup 2 to 3 times a day. 
B) external use: rheumatic and arthritic pain.

The same infusion is used in compresses and washes.

Effect: anti-migraine (1), febrifuge(2), anti-inflammatory.

Caution: do not administer during pregnancy, use with medical supervision during lactation. Do not take in conjunction with anticoagulants, aspirin and ginkgo biloba.
May cause contact dermatitis. In order to manifest its effects it may be necessary to use it daily for 2 to 3 months. Fresh leaves in direct contact can cause mouth ulcers, abdominal pain or loss of taste. 
Other background: its use in the prevention of migraine are supported by clinical studies. Its anti-inflammatory effect has some scientific evidence.
1 Calm migraine or migraine.
2 It lowers the fever.
